Hi all!

We have SO much stuff going on this winter it's hard to keep track of it all! Here's the list - for more info, check the calendar.

Hi all!

There has been a flurry of stuff about summer camp going out lately! I thought I'd pop it all right here for convenience.

Troop Meeting this Monday night!

Posted by rmitchell on Jul 7 2022 - 6:39pm

Tonight, you will present yourselves with everything you need to go camping with us this weekend and we will do a "shakedown", where you'll show the Scoutmasters that you are packed and ready to go camping over the weekend. Come prepared for a camping trip (even if you don't plan to come this weekend) and knock off Tenderfoot requirement 1a! We'll also go over the Outdoor Code and how we can observe it when we go camping for folks working on their Scout rank.

Swim tests for Many Point and Beyond!

Posted by rmitchell on Jun 22 2022 - 5:38pm
Hi all!

Info about the swim test this upcoming Monday night is below. PLEASE pay attention to things in bold, since they are different from what is typical for us.

What: Swim Tests for ALL swimming/boating events in the 2022/2023 scouting year

Where: Eden Prairie Community Center Aquatics Center, 16700 Valley View Road, Eden Prairie

When: 6:00-7:00 PM, Monday June 27

Who: Scouts AND parents who would like to be able to participate in any activities with the troop that involve being on the water in the next 13 months (boating and swimming)

What is needed: Scouts and parents who wish to be tested will need to come with a swimsuit and towel. Goggles are optional for those who need/want them, but no other aids are allowed (like life jackets, fins, etc.)

Why: Participation in troop sponsored swimming and boating events requires a knowledge of everyone's swimming abilities to comply with BSA's Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat plans. In addition, for Scouts, for the Second Class rank they need to be able to pass the Beginner swim test, and they need to pass the Swimmer test for the First Class rank.

More details and FAQs:

1. Please note the change in time and location, as well as the duration of the activity. This should NOT be an event where a Scout is dropped off and then picked up - people will be tested when there is someone to watch them do the test, and as soon as they're done they are free to go - this isn't an open swim, it's just the test.

2. If you and/or your Scout can't be there on Monday, the test can still be done upon arrival at Many Point, it's just one more thing that needs to be planned for, and it's a bit easier if it is done in advance.

3. In addition, there is a possibility that we could try to plan a boating activity for fun later in the summer, for which we'd need to know people's swimming levels, and it could happen before Many Point.

4. Scouts are broken up into 3 different groups - Nonswimmers (learners), Beginners, and Swimmers. Here are the requirements:

Hi all!

Just for fun, I've included this year's list of merit badges in order of how many people earned these badges. 2021 is included as a comparison. (Source: Scouting Magazine)

Youth Protection Training for Adults

Posted by rmitchell on May 2 2022 - 4:58pm

Hi all!

A big thank you to Jim McKay for doing our adults YPT last Monday night, and a big thank you to the adults who gave their time to learn what we do in Scouts BSA to keep our Scouts safe! If you couldn't be there and you don't already have a current Youth Protection Training, follow the link below for instructions of how to do it online. When you are done, please save a PDF copy of your certificate and email it to me so I can keep tabs on who is current. Thanks!
